You’ve been able to create a business profile on Instagram for about a year now. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean many people know about this option. Everything moves so quickly online, so it’s almost impossible not to miss some of the new developments along the way.

If you and your business are on Instagram, this blog post will show you how to switch your regular Instagram profile to a business profile. It’s easy to do – and there are quite a few benefits to making the switch.

Note

To get a business profile on Instagram, your business needs to have a Facebook profile to connect to. Facebook owns Instagram, and while this is good business for them, it also brings benefits for you. When you create a business profile on Instagram and link it to your Facebook page, you can quickly and easily invite your Facebook friends to follow you on Instagram too. That’s clever!

How to do it

  1. The first thing you need to do to create a business profile on Instagram is log in to the regular profile your business is currently using. If your business isn’t yet on the platform, you’ll need to create a new profile.
  2. Once you’re logged in, leave the news feed and go to your profile. On your profile page, tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Tapping the three dots opens a list you can scroll through. A bit down the list you’ll find ‘Switch to Business Profile’. Tap it:

Now it’s time to use your business Facebook profile, and you’ll be asked to log in with your Facebook credentials. You’ve probably done this before—for example, when using apps—and it simply means Instagram can pull data from your Facebook profile, and your Instagram business account is subject to the same terms as on Facebook.

Once you’re logged in with Facebook, you’ll notice that your Instagram profile has a slightly different setup. That’s because it’s now been switched to a business profile. With this new setup, you can add an email address, your business phone number, and even a location. This way, your customers can get in touch with you with just a single click on one of the integrated buttons.

Voilà!

You’re now up and running with your business profile – enjoy!
