Strong concept, but lacked guidance

Thorupstrand Smokehouse is a food company that has operated a smokehouse in Thorupstrand since 2015. They offer fresh, sustainable fish caught along the Danish coast. Everything is homemade, and all smoked products are produced in-house. The smokehouse includes both a physical shop and an online store where their catch is sold.

Jesper and Bo Olesen, both featured in the TV2 programme ‘Gutterne på Kutterne’, have achieved significant growth in their shop.

They wanted to see this growth reflected in their online shop as well. That is why WeMarket was brought in to deliver a comprehensive marketing strategy.

Breadth in the approach

Thorupstrand Smokehouse are experts in fresh Danish fish and smoked products, with strong sales in their physical smokehouse. However, like many entrepreneurs who are passionate about their craft, they were not experts in online marketing.

Their challenge was not knowing how to handle online marketing to increase turnover in their online shop. Which channels would be most effective, and how could each be used to create greater synergy and growth?

They therefore sought a partner who could manage the full spectrum of online marketing, as well as webshop optimisation and concept development.

Thorupstrand Smokehouse also wanted increased online visibility and to lay a stronger foundation for their physical shop by boosting sales through the online store.

The task and the goal were clear: Increase turnover in the online shop.

How this would be achieved, and which channels to use, was our responsibility.

One of the most important ongoing tasks is to ensure the webshop is visible on Google when customers search for their products. Here, we implemented both search engine optimisation and Google Ads. We also reached out to new customers via Facebook.

To keep Thorupstrand Smokehouse top-of-mind with customers and encourage repeat purchases, we focused on collecting sign-ups for their newsletter, enabling us to send out attractive offers and news every week.

WeMarket were given free rein to evaluate which initiatives and channels should be prioritised to drive growth. Our focus was on creating a better structure for their online shop to improve the user experience. We also assisted in developing new products for the online shop that better matched customer needs.
